About the School

The Roncesvalles School of Fashion aims to provide the complete design school experience — for kids!

Using her own experience at design school as a teaching template, Sarah Hopgood has developed a variety of classes geared toward creative children who aren’t finding an outlet for their ideas during regular school hours.

Students enrolled in RSOF’s programs learn sewing skills through practical projects designed to engage imaginations and create something each student will want to use or wear when the class is finished.

These programs build practical skills, confidence, friendships, and teach young people the value of a well-made garment.

Depending on the program, students can expect to progress from drawing and developing a small collection through sketches, magazine tears and fabric cuttings, creating a pattern and sewing to bring the young designer’s idea to life.

Recommended age: between 8-16 years old. No previous sketching or sewing skills required.

Kind words from students and their parents

  • "This course was a great learning experience. I really liked that the classes were small, so there was a lot of one on one time with the teacher. I also liked that we made patterns so I can make duplicates at home."

  • "Sarah helped us out a lot but also let us be independent. I really enjoy the small classes and the area is really good. We get our own drawing book and drawing kit which is cool. The classes are a good length too. And I like it when she brings out water!"

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed Roncesvalles School of Fashion. I liked the course in many many ways. Firstly, it's fun to know that every project Sarah assigns us is what real fashion designers do. Secondly, I think it's really cool that we get to design our own dress and get taught how to make our design perfect. Also, it's fun to learn all the fashion words and know all the tools you need to make a dress. Finally, I loved this class. It was a lot of hard work but I realized if you want to be a fashion designer, this class will make you one step closer to being one."

  • "I really liked learning how to draw models, picking the fabric and learning sewing technique. I love these classes and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year!"
    Natasha, 13
  • "What I like about the program is we get to make our own dress! I also like how Sarah is so helpful, nice and patient with everyone in my class. She is the best multi-tasker I've ever met! This class is so fun to do. I like using the machines and learning new things I didn't know before about sewing and fashion. I'd definitely recommend Sarah's class!"
